Do Vegans Drink Coffee

The other day I was talking with my friend Sharon and we were discussing her vegan lifestyle. I am a meat eating guy no matter how hard she is trying to change me but this morning I woke up and had a cup of coffee and that got me thinking. Is coffee vegan?

I did some research and found that since coffee is a plant that it is fine by itself it is when you add things like milk to it you make it un-vegan. I found that some vegans drink coffee and use items like soy milk or almond milk to keep it vegan but I found out that a lot of vegans are hard core and don’t use anything at all in their coffee.

Sharon made an excellent page called what is vegan that explains things in a lot more detail than I could. If you are interested I would check it out.

Now I am thinking that I could switch up my milk for soy milk and get a little healthier but I doubt that she will get me to switch my morning routine. She will consider it a small step in the right direction and will probably drive me nuts to have a full vegan breakfast too.

What do you think? If you are a vegan I would love to hear from you!

One thing that really does the trick and worked for a friend of mine who was a big half and half coffee person is So Delicious Coconut Creamer. It doesn’t really taste coconutty but makes your coffee super creamy. It’s easy to find at most grocery stores where you’d find the milk. Try it. I’m not a rep for this company but I maybe I should be. And there you have it, vegan coffee, leave the cholesterol on the side. 🙂 Sharon

P.s. comes in plain, french vanilla and hazelnut.

Just drink it black. Ristretto, espresso, Americano, “half black”, syphon, Clover, pourover, aeropress – they’re all wonderful drinks in their own right. You need to choose your coffee places more carefully since milk covers up a multitude of coffee making mistakes, but any halfway decent “specialty coffee” place should be able to make you a delicious “vegan coffee” without any trouble.

(Though, the “rules lawyer” in me is now wondering how vegans reconcile the permitted amounts of “insect matter” that’s inevitable not only in coffee beans, but in _most_ vegetable produce…)

Please watch a movie called Forks over Knives. After watching it I was convinced 100% and became a vegan. It’ll answer ALL of your questions.
